Within minutes of being strapped in, I was dropped from a great height, thrown about by an earthquake, hurled against the bow of a boat, submerged in the ocean, fired at with cannonballs, kicked, battered, flung about, speared by a Roman soldier and almost swallowed by a hissing serpent.
I was rained on, snowed on, whipped about by wind, surrounded by smoke from raging fires.
The sound of roaring storms and the violence of battle echoed in my ears. I smelled the scents, odours and fragrances of centuries of myth and history – all from the “comfort” of my high-tech, computerised seat.

It was just one of the many highlights of a fascinating Greek island-hopping cruise aboard the good ship Celestyal Odyssey. And it certainly set the pace for a full-on, four-day, whizz-around holiday. Especially as we were proudly told by the captain that we were travelling on one of the fastest cruise vessels in the world.
